Edward Gorey was an illustrator and lifelong animal lover (specifically cats!). While he was drawing The Jumblies by 19th Century poet Edward Lear, Gorey was so enthralled with Lear's kitty Foss, he dedicated all his drawings in the book to the fine feline.
